Goodbye Summer?

So, after all that lovely sunshine, the beginning of July has arrived with a will - with some high winds, cooler temperatures, and a fair bit of (admittedly) much-needed rain.

I don't think anyone will be sitting on this deckchair today!

Down Came the Hail

Bit of a hailstorm last night - sounded like someone was drumming on the house!

After the Storm

December 2013 wasn't exactly sweetness and light weather-wise . . .

 . . . but the last couple of days have seen a toxic mix of high tides, wind and rain.

Massive tidal surges overnight - people evacuated from the seafront - the prom closed - it all sounded real dramatic on the news, but the actual impact of it all didn't hit home till we took a walk down to the prom today.

A few missing paving stones didn't seem so bad . . . nor did the piles of shingle - slightly more than usual, but not an unfamiliar sight!









Elsewhere though the wreckage was phenomenal - great stone slabs with railings still attached had been dragged from their position and across the prom:

The Consti end of the prom seems to have taken most of the battering - the pavilion here is still standing, but the sea has undermined the promontory it sits on, and there's a huge hole behind it.


All in all it looked like someone had set off a bomb - and it was certainly proving to be something of a local attraction - most of the town seemed to be on the prom taking in the scene!




The clean-up has started - but this is going to take a lot more than a couple of street cleaning machines!

Into Autumn

The first weekend in October saw the last gasp of summer sunshine, giving way to a spell of distinctly damp weather, with worse to come in early November.  All in all still relatively warmish mind you - no frost or snow, just wind and rain . . .

Neither Wet Nor Dry . . .

The late summer weather has been a bit of mixed bag of sunshine and showers - neither wet nor dry nor hot nor cold - could have been better but could also have been a lot worse!

Summer Sunshine

June started sunny, and the temperature finally began to pick up as well - the rest of the month was a little more mixed mind you:

July saw the sunshine return (although we missed some of the best of it, while away in Norway) - on the whole though a great improvement on 2012 at least!

Spring Blows In . . .

April remained pretty cool on the whole, and brought with it some windy weather, but also a fair amount of sunshine.

May - more of the same - for the most part could have been a tad warmer - and some more really windy weather, but at least we saw some sunshine.

Will it Rain or Will it Blow?

February started wet and windy, but got sunnier by the end of the month:



March saw the bright weather give way to wet and windy again, before ending the month on a sunny note - nothing like last year mind you - no heatwave - bright, but distinctly cold . . .

Hopefully April will see it warm up a bit - don't feel inclined to turn the Rayburn off just yet!

Winter-ish . .

January got a bit colder, even saw snow one day (didn't last).  Ended the month with a few wild and windy days, and an occasional thunderstorm to add to the drama:

Overall, still pretty wet, but not as wet as December - so on the whole an improvement . . .

Lightning!

Was wondering what the noise was last night - then looked out the window and the world lit up:

We're not generally big on thunderstorms but this one was practically shaking the house - luckily it didn't last long.

The Rain It Rainethed Every Day . . .

Well maybe not quite every day - but not far off . . . it didn't get that cold either I suppose, but would have preferred cold, dry and bright, to this:

December was worse - the Christmas period was phenomenally wet - kept looking out of the window, wondering if we were about to float away . . .

 Here's hoping for better in 2013!

Has it Stopped Raining Yet?

Well September and October had their bright spots, but again the weather was generally unsettled, and continued wetter than we would have liked.  Indeed, it was sufficiently wet to flood the bottom of the garden again in October:

So we didn't get our Indian Summer - luckily the weather dried up for a few days to get some gardening done later in October - but otherwise we'll just have to hope for a better Summer in 2013!

Summer???

Summer this year has been a definite wash-out - that wet June gave way to generally rather dismal July and August.  That's not to say that there weren't some nice days, but for the most part the unsettled, damp and coolish weather continued:

Can only hope that September and October bring in the sunshine!

Raindrops Are Falling . . .

Doesn't look that bad - but when it did rain, it really really rained . . .

At any rate the weather certainly gave us a month to remember!

Keeping it Cool . . .

After that baking hot end to March, it got distinctly cooler - heating back on, fires lit . . .

April was a real mixed bag of sunshine and showers:

May started off in much the same fashion, but did finally heat up in the last week or so when the sun finally came out for more than a day at a time (even had one really hot weekend).  The unsettled weather was back by the end of the month though:

Winter to Summer (and back again?)

Unfortunately the hot weather didn't last and it's just made the rather colder April a little harder to come to terms with - beginning to wish we hadn't switched the rayburn off - and now some weather forecasters are predicting the coldest May for a 100 years!

British Summer Time

Doesn't happen often that that the shift to BST actually brings 'summer' with it - but here we go, the 'met' data to prove it:

Still No Snow

January stayed mild and a bit miserable on the weather front:



















And while some places have seen major snowfalls this February weekend, we remain resolutely green here in Aber - and a rather dismal green at that . . .

Meanwhile, family over in Cambridgeshire have had one of the heaviest snowfalls they can remember.

One of them embraced the experience in no uncertain fashion ("Snow Angel Hardcore") - I'm assuming he headed straight for a hot shower afterwards!

A Green Winter

The weather (thus far) this winter couldn't be more different from 2010 - November last year brought snow and ice which continued throughout December - this year it was more wind and rain . . .

. . . with December continuing the theme (but more so!):

It's also been rather warm for the time of year - don't think we'd seen more than one frosty day up to the end of 2011, and January has continued the mild but extremely dismal outlook.  Looking forward to seeing the sun again now!

Wot No Snow?

October arrived in blazing sunshine, and while it didn't last it remained a rather warm (if wet) month overall - certainly we didn't see the much-rumoured snow!
