Filling the Freezer

Spent much of the Bank Holiday weekend processing more garden produce!  Finally pulled the last of the onions / shallots - not an impressive crop I'm afraid - hopefully the leeks will do a little better.  Also dug up the last of the potatoes in the main vegetable plot.

Made up some more tomato pots, and used some of the glut of cooking apples we'd been provided with to make up some apple and chilli jelly.

The rest of the apples are chopped and in the freezer, along with a rather large bag of chopped courgettes, and 5lb of damsons that someone had given us.  Damson brandy anyone?

Tales from the Woodshed

Martin has been busy with the axe recently and we'd accumulated a rather large pile of wood as a result - although it was taking up a lot of room in the woodshed.

It took a few hours to clear, but now it's all neatly snacked (in various locations!) . . .

And there's room in the woodshed to move again - plus hopefully we're now all sorted for the winter months.

Courgette Mountain!

Think I might have overdone the courgettes this year - the plants have gone totally rampant now, and we haven't been able to keep up!

These rather marrow-like specimens were harvested yesterday, but there's a lot more to come . . .

Luckily the broken chest freezer has had its thermostat replaced and is now available for excess courgette storage - but at this rate it's going to be full before the end of the summer.

Courgette soup anyone?

Woodland Walking

Weather stayed warm and sunny yesterday afternoon, so we made it out on another of our backyard explorations.

And I have to say that the woods above Talybont really are rather lovely - lots of meandering paths off the main track, there's a nice stream, and in due course (if we want to) we can walk on out the other side of the woods across the fields to Borth (with a bit of planning).

There are also some lovely views to be had across the valley and out to sea:

Sunshine and Showers

Haven't updated the weather scene for a bit, so here's the summer thus far . . .

The mixed bag-ness of it all has continued - July had a bit more sunshine than June, but both months saw a bit of everything - certainly not a return to the glorious summer of '76 that some people were predicting back in May.  August isn't looking that 'hot' either - but we'll see . . .
