Visit to family over Father's Day weekend  . . .

Brother-in-law on barbecue duty (again) - with Marci watching on, as ever, just in case . . . you know!

The sun shone, some lovely food, and good to be together as a family.

Time for a walk later, taking in Manea Pit with all its attendant wildlife (which includes lots of geese).

Good job Marci was on a lead otherwise she'd have been in there!

Great family weekend . . .

Firepit Barbecue

Haven't lit the fire pit that much this year, but as it was a warm late September evening, and we'd acquired a grill to go over the top, fired it up and barbecued some burgers for tea.  Then sat out by the fire into the early evening, watching the light fade, and enjoying the flames.

Nice end to the day . . .

DIY Pizza Oven

As part of the #kitchencourtyardredesign we had been considering options for a barbecue installation - then, somewhere online, we saw a DIY pizza oven that someone had made by piling up old bricks, so decided to combine the two . . .

And here we have it - lots of clay bricks, the grills from a defunct barbecue, and a roof of more bricks sitting on some spare aluminium greenhouse struts, topped off with a couple of spare concrete roof tiles.

All built on top of a 'table' structure made from breeze blocks and a paving slab.  Almost everything was stuff we already had - although did pay a few quid for the (reclaimed) bricks.

So, it was:
a) cheap
b) almost entirely recycled
c) easy to construct, dismantle and move
d) somewhere to use up twiggy bits of wood that are a bit small for the log burner . . .

. . . and it made great pizza!

Outdoor Living

Hoping for a good summer this year - with a new gas barbecue, and a bistro set (to join the bench we bought last year), we're ready for some outside dining.

Fingers crossed for the sunshine to go with it!
