About This Blog
In January 2008 we moved out of town, and acquired a garden and a view. For the most part this blog records what we've done in the garden / house, plus any odd musings on things I find of interest. Something nice (I hope) for us to look back on as memory fades . . . and a way of keeping friends and family up-to-date, which means I don't have to feel quite so guilty about not writing more often! It'll also remind us when we planted what . . .

On the Bird Feeder / In the Sky
- Blackbird (lord of the back garden, although Mrs Blackbird forages under the Feeder)
- Blue Tit (lots of)
- Buzzard (or is it a Red Kite?)
- Chaffinch (a regular visitor to the Feeder)
- Collared Dove (nesting in the Yew Tree)
- Dunnock (lurks around the Feeder)
- Goldfinch (a regular visitor since we put the niger seeds out, although I think they prefer the sunflower hearts!)
- Great Spotted Woodpecker (now a regular visitor, really likes the peanuts)
- Great Tit (also lots of)
- Greenfinch (fair number)
- House Sparrow (the sparrow 'mafia')
- Jay (recently observed on the bird feeder)
- Nuthatch (a new arrival on the scene)
- Pied Wagtail (seems to like hopping about on the roof)
- Raven (tries to eat from the peanut feeder but doesn't have the beak for it!)
- Red Kite (often seen soaring above)
- Robin ('fat' and 'thin')
- Song Thrush (lots of snail shells to be found so must be doing ok)
- Starling (just the one, really likes the fat balls!)
- Swallow (a regular swoop of)
- Wren (hard to spot)
This Week I am Mostly Reading ...
February 2024 - Back to 'lifestyle' stuff with a Van Tulleken's Ultra-Processed People about all the food we shouldn't eat. Expect a major change to our diet in the near future!
January - February 2024 - Finally finished Jodi Taylor's The Chronicles of St Mary's time travel series. Great read when I got stuck in (had a few 2am mornings on reading sessions). Definitely recommended! Might have to start on her The Time Police series next - at least there are only four of those (so far!).
